RELIEF VALVES FOR WINE AND BREWING INDUSTRY

In breweries and wineries, safety valves are crucial components for protecting fermentation tanks, which are used in the process of converting wort into beer or grape juice into wine. During fermentation, yeast converts sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide (CO₂), generating significant internal pressure within the tanks. If not properly managed, this pressure can damage vessels, cause product loss, or compromise system safety.

To prevent overpressure, safety valves are installed on fermentation tanks and gas discharge lines. These valves automatically open when pressure exceeds a preset value, allowing controlled release of excess gas such as CO₂. This helps maintain a safe fermentation environment, prevent structural damage, and ensure a consistent and high-quality final product.

In many cases, valves are mounted on top of the tank, but depending on the design, they may also be placed along discharge lines to provide full system protection. Their use ensures safe, efficient fermentation with minimal product loss and maximum operational safety.

Our models, such as D14 (PN 40), B20 (PN 60), and F25 (PN 40), cover sizes from DN15 to DN40 and are manufactured in SS316L. These valves feature free discharge and are ideal for managing high-pressure fermentation environments in compliance with ISO 4126, ASME, and PED standards.

When operating pressure is close to the set pressure, fluctuations due to temperature or fermentation speed may cause undesired valve activation. This can lead to:

  • Product loss due to CO₂ discharge, affecting carbonation.
  • Fermentation imbalance, compromising final product quality.

To prevent unwanted activations, we set calibration with a +3% margin over nominal pressure. This ensures the valve only activates during real emergencies, improving system stability and reducing unnecessary maintenance.
